What types of shows perform best?

Shows that are well suited to radio programming generally perform best. The broader the musical appeal and the easier the show is to fit into a station’s format, the more potential stations it can reach. More mainstream genres such as pop, dance and accessible electronic music will usually have a larger potential station base than more underground or niche genres such as techno.

Frequency also makes a significant difference. Weekly shows generally have the strongest syndication potential because stations can place them in the same slot every week and listeners can build a regular listening habit around them. Fortnightly shows can also work well, while monthly shows usually have fewer opportunities because they are harder to integrate into regular radio schedules.

This does not mean that niche or monthly shows cannot be successfully syndicated. It simply means that the more specialised the genre and the less frequent the programme, the smaller the number of stations that are likely to be a suitable fit.
